AFCAT Preparation Tips

AFCAT is a very popular exam and every year lakhs of aspirants appear for this exam. Cracking this exam requires the right approach and proper strategy. AFCAT written exam consists of 100 questions of 300 marks. Questions are asked from English, General Awareness, Reasoning, and Mathematics. We will provide you some tips to crack the AFCAT exam in your first attempt.
English

This section contains questions from comprehension passage, error detection, sentence completion, synonyms, antonyms, idioms and phrases, one-word substitution etc. These questions are of moderate level and can be prepared from any standard book. Even the previous years’ questions are very useful for this section. The grammar part can be improved by practicing online quizzes. reading an English newspaper would suffice the comprehension part.

General Awareness

This section contains questions from History, Polity, Geography, Basic Science, Art and Culture, Defence, and Current events of national and international importance. The syllabus of this section is a little vaster hence it would be beneficial to analyze the previous year’s questions first. Read those topics first which you are well aware of, for example, science and current affairs. Don’t go too deep in subjects like polity where the syllabus is too vast which reduces the cost-benefit ratio. Lucent is a good book for the static portion.

Numerical Ability

This section requires a faster calculative approach. The questions are asked from topics like Time and Distance, Decimal Fraction, Average, Profit and Loss, Average, Ratio and proportion, Algebra, etc. The key to conquer this section is practice. The more you practice the higher your score. Before starting any topic don’t forget to analyze the previous year questions.

You can start preparing by attempting mock tests and then refining your weak areas from any standard book or coaching material.
Reasoning and Military Aptitude

This section is a little similar to the Numerical Ability section. The questions in this section are asked from verbal and non-verbal reasoning. For example, Figure Completion, Dice, Analogy, Classification, Jumbled words. This section can be prepared easily from online mock tests and quizzes on a daily basis. Don’t spend too much time on a single question.

Try to score as much as you can in the written part. Out of 300 marks, if you score around 160-170, you will sail through the cut-off. But to get your name into the final merit list it will be safer to score higher. Rather than working too much on a single section, try to score higher overall. Study consistently and your concepts will suffice day by day.

AFCAT AFSB (Air Force Selection Board)

AFSB is the second phase of the exam. Candidates who clear the written exam will receive the call letters for AFSB Interview round. Selected Candidates will be called at one of the Air Force Selection Board.

This phase is 5 day process in which a candidates has to perform various kinds of intellectual and mental tasks. Last day will be the Interview round.
