About the Project
Speech recognition in agriculture and finance for the poor is an initiative predominantly to create resources and make them available as a digital public good in the open source domain to spur research and innovation in speech recognition in nine different Indian languages in the area of agriculture and finance. Nine Indian languages considered for this project are Hindi, Bengali, Marathi, Telugu, Bhojpuri, Kannada, Maghadi, Chhattisgarhi, and Maithili. This project is funded by Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
Role
Apply deep learning techniques and neural networks to improve acoustic and language models for Automatic Speech Recognition in Indian languages
Innovate on state-of-the-art deep learning systems for speech recognition
Essential Qualifications
Currently pursuing Master`s or PhD degree in Engineering major
Strong analytical and algorithmic skills: familiar with probabilistic methods, statistics, and numerical optimization methods
Fast learning ability, can understand and evaluate cutting-edge papers in a short time
Strong coding skills - C++ or Python and Linux environment
Familiar with deep learning and machine learning frameworks: Tensorflow, Pytorch, Keras, Caffe, Theano
Preferred Qualification
Experience in the following topics is a plus: Speech Recognition, Speaker Identification, Language Detection, Speech Synthesis, and Deep Learning
Also, don`t forget to mention if you are familiar with digital signal processing (DSP) principles, noise reduction, or echo cancellation
Duration
3 months (minimum) [full-time]

- We are looking for a candidate who is very active and has excellent writing skills.
- The candidate is expected to write the sentences in a dialect your language.
- His/ her role will be to compose a few sentences in their dialect for each topic by using rich vocabulary and increasing the vocabulary size gradually as more sentences are composed, building sentences of 8-15 words long and without making any grammatical errors.
- There should be no copyright text or google translated text from other languages.
- The candidate is expected to use relevant terminologies and compose sentences for each given topic in that language.
- The candidate will be responsible for sentences entered in a given google document.
