To begin with the SSC Stenographer Apply Online 2024, a candidate needs to provide basic details of themselves like name, parents’ name, date of birth, email ID, mobile number etc.

Click on the submit button to submit your online registration form for SSC Stenographer 2024. It is advised that candidates verify their details before submitting the form. All the candidates will be issued a Registration ID for SSC Stenographer 2024 exam.

Candidates are required to log in with the provided Registration ID, date of birth and password to complete registration for SSC Stenographer 2024.

In the next step, candidates are required to upload photographs and signatures by following the requisites mentioned by the Staff Selection Commission of India.

Photograph – The photograph of a candidate must be clicked in front of white colour or light-colored background. The size of the photograph must be more than 4 kb and less than 12 kb in size. The resolution of the photograph must be 100*120 pixels in width and height.


Signature – The signature provided by the candidate must be in black or blue ink on the white sheet. The scanned copy of the signature that needs to be submitted must be in jpg format and it should be more than 1 kb and less than 12 kb in size. The resolution of the image should be 40*60 pixels in width and height.


SSC Stenographer Eligibility Criteria 2024

Candidates who are required to apply for SSC Stenographer Recruitment 2024 must note that they must hold the minimum eligibility criteria in terms of nationality, education qualification and age limit. The

1. Nationality

A candidate must be either:

(a) a citizen of India, or

(b) a subject of Nepal, or

(c) a subject of Bhutan, or

(d) a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania (Formerly Tanganyika and Zanzibar), Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam to permanently settle in India.

Provided that a candidate belonging to categories (b), (c), (d) and (e) above shall be a person in whose favour a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the Government of India.

A candidate in whose case a certificate of eligibility is necessary may be admitted to the examination but the offer of appointment will be given only after the necessary eligibility certificate has been issued to him by the Government of India.


2. Education Qualification

The minimum Educational Qualification required by a candidate is to be at least a 12th pass from a recognized Board or University. He/She must be able to produce the required documents when asked for verification after qualifying SSC Stenographer 2024 Exam.


3. Age Limit (as on 01/08/2024)

Stenographer Grade ‘C’: Candidate must fall in the age group of 18 to 30 years. Candidates born not before 02.08.1994 and not later than 01.08.2006 are eligible to apply.

Stenographer Grade ‘D’: The candidate must fall in the age group of 18 to 27 years. Candidates born not before 02.08.1997 and not later than 01.08.2006 are eligible to apply.

SSC Stenographer 2024 Selection Process

The SSC Stenographer 2024 examination will be conducted at 2 different levels. The first level is the Grade C and D exam which comprises MCQs and is conducted online. After this exam has been conducted, an exam to test your skill sets in various domains is conducted by SSC.

SSC Stenographer Exam Pattern 2024

The details of the Computer Based Examination for SSC Stenographer 2024 Grade C and D are mentioned below:

The question paper will be of Objective Type Multiple Choice. Questions will be set in Hindi and English except for English Language and Comprehension.

There will be a negative marking of 0.25 marks for each wrong answer. Candidates are, therefore, advised to keep this in mind while answering the question.

Marks scored by candidates in the Computer Based Examinations, if conducted in multiple shifts, will be normalized and such normalized scores will be used to determine final merit.

SSC Stenographer Minimum Qualifying Marks

The minimum percentage of marks for qualifying in the SSC Stenographer Computer Based Examination will be as under:

Unreserved Category: 30%

OBC/EWS: 25%

All Other Categories: 20%

Skill Test in Stenography

Candidates who obtain the qualifying marks in the Examination as may be prescribed by the Commission will be called for the Skill Test. The commission may also prescribe qualifying marks in each part of the Examination. The Skill Test will be of qualifying nature and the Commission will fix the qualifying standards in the Skill Test for different categories of candidates.

The candidates will have to appear for the Skill Test in Stenography. The candidates will be given one dictation for 10 minutes in English/ Hindi at the speed of 100 words per minute (w.p.m) for the post of Stenographer Grade ‘C’ and 80 w.p.m. for the post of Stenographer Grade ‘D’. The matter will have to be transcribed on a computer. The transcription time is as follows:

Important Points:

Candidates who opt to take the Stenography Test in Hindi will be required to learn English Stenography and vice versa after their appointment, failing which their probation may not be cleared by appointing departments. Candidates have to work as English/ Hindi stenographers as per the functional requirement of the User Office irrespective of the medium of Skill Test of the candidate during the examination.

The skill test will be held at the Commission’s Regional/ Sub Regional Offices or at other Centre(s) as may be decided by the Commission.

Detailed instructions regarding Skill Test will be sent by the concerned Regional/ Sub Regional Offices of the Commission to the candidates called for the Skill Test.

SSC Stenographer Syllabus Details:

Staff Selection Commission (SSC) Stenographer (Grade C & D) Computer Based Examination’s Syllabus details are given below.

General Intelligence & Reasoning: It would include questions of both verbal and non-verbal type. The test will include questions on analogies, similarities and differences, space visualization, problem solving, analysis, judgment, decision making, visual memory, discriminating observation, relationship concepts, arithmetical reasoning, verbal and figure classification, arithmetical number series, non-verbal series etc. The test will also include questions designed to test the candidate’s abilities to deal with abstract ideas and symbols and their relationship, arithmetical computation and other analytical functions.

General Awareness: Questions will be designed to test the ability of the candidate‘s general awareness of the environment around him and its application to society. Questions will also be designed to test knowledge of current events and of such matters of everyday observation and experience in their scientific aspects as may be expected of an educated person. The test will also include questions relating to India and its neighbouring countries especially pertaining to Sports, History, Culture, Geography, Economic scene, General Polity including Indian Constitution, and Scientific Research etc. These questions will be such that they do not require a special study of any discipline.

Note: For VH candidates of 40% and above visual disability, there will be no component of Maps/Graphs/Diagrams/Statistical Data in the General Intelligence & Reasoning/ General Awareness Paper.

English Language & Comprehension: In addition to the testing of candidates’ understanding of the English Language, its vocabulary, grammar, sentence structure, synonyms, antonyms and its correct usage, etc. his/her writing ability, would also be tested.


SSC Stenographer Salary 2024

All the provisionally appointed candidates for Stenographer Grade ‘C’ (Group ‘B’, NonGazetted) and Stenographer Grade ‘D’ (Group ‘C’) posts will be paid an attractive monthly salary. Along with basic salary, various allowances (including Dearness Allowance and House Rent Allowance), and deductions (such as Provident Fund and Income Tax) will also be provided.
